Wilpattu National Park (45mins drive)
Wilpattu National Park is Sri Lanka's largest wildlife park. The unique feature of this park is the existence of “willus” – natural, sand-rimmed basins or depressions that fill with rainwater and serve as watering holes for the wildlife. These are surrounded by grassy plains and set within scrub jungle. It is an unspoilt game park where leopards, elephants, sloth bears, water buffalo and spotted dear can be seen.
Kalpitiya (20 minutes drive)
Famous for Kite surfing with winds at an average of 18-20 knots during the season. On one side is the Indian Ocean and on the other side is Kalpitiya Lagoon.
When the seas calm Snorkelling around the Bar Reef is an amazing and beautiful experience. Kalpitiya is one of the best spots to watch Dolphins and Whales in Sri Lanka. It is an area of natural beauty remarkably untouched by tourism with miles of sandy beaches and clear blue water.
